Curaçao Underwater Kunuku | The Suit Ocean Team | English Version

CURACAO UNDERWATER KUNUKU A beautiful film about a 100 (one hundred) kilometer coastal snorkel trip in Curaçao, venturing out from the Eastern most point of the island along the South coast all the way to the NorthWestern most tip of the island. Interaction between man and nature, showcasing the beauty of underwater life and promoting conservation and preservation thereof are key ingredients to this beautiful film CURACAO UNDERWATER KUNUKU. Experienced swimmers and divers with a film crew of approx forty to fifty people and a total of approximately one hundred made this possible. Coordinated efforts, focus and leadership were key in the realization of this huge non profit endeavour. May we recommend to also enjoy the credits as credits are so important for us to recognize so many people who put so much efforts in our film. Nobody has done this before swimming from East to Northwest, 100kilomters and nobody has filmed it either. The raw footage is much more then this 31-32 minute film and contains a lot of valuable information. Therefore the raw footage was made available for educational purpose in schools as well as scientists and researchers in marine biology, sustainable development, ocean explorers and more. The Suit is a fictional character especially ‘created by the creator’ of this film. And each and everyone in the credits is a ‘Suit’. You’ll see at the end: ‘boso tur ta The Suit’ which means ‘You are all Suits’ as also said at the beginning just before jumping in the water for the first stage. And The Suit Ocean Team was born. The film is also available in Spanish, Papiamentu, Dutch, Portuguese and German Enjoy the film! THE SUIT OCEAN TEAM Find us on Facebook; on Vimeo; on Instagram

A unique Curaçao Snorkeling Adventure | The Suit Curacao Vlog

A Unique Perspective on Curacao's Coral Reefs by "The Suit" WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Underwater Kunuku. Visit "The Suit" Curacao Website: https://www.thesuitcuracao.com Curious about our kunuku (“garden”) below the surface? Then follow ‘The Suit’ for ten days from August 30 onwards as they enter the water at the easternmost point of Curaçao and snorkel to the westernmost tip of the island. ‘The Suit’ LLDS (short for: Longitude & Latitude Divers & Swimmers) represents a large group of volunteers and institutions who love Curaçao and want to make a tangible contribution to the promotion of our coral reef. ‘The Suit’ snorkels approximately 100 kilometers all while filming our underwater kunuku and the southern coastline. The objective: the production of a special documentary about our underwater world with emphasis on the fact that Curaçao is open for visits not only by scubadivers but also by swimmers equipped with just a mask and a snorkel. All of this footage will then form the basis for the production of a special documentary. This documentary in turn can be used by the CTB (Curaçao Tourism Board) at international conventions such as the DEMA in autumn of this year. A little present for Curaçao from the suit. The snorkel trip starts on Friday August 30 at Oostpunt (Eastpoint) where ‘The Suit’ will jump off the Pelican Express into the sea. ‘The Suit’ will then cover a distance of 10km to Fuik Bay. Saturday August 31st is an off day for ‘The Suit’. That day will be used to evaluate the first leg after which the itinerary will be adapted if and where necessary. Sunday September 1 the voyage continues from Fuik to Marichi Beach (in Punda). On Monday ‘The Suit’ will snorkel from Marichi to Carmabi making a little detour through the Anna Bay. Curaçao Ports Authority will cooperate by barring marine traffic in and around the harbor and thus ensure the safety of ‘The Suit’. Tuesday ‘The Suit’ goes on to swim from Carmabi to Vaersenbaai (Kokomo). Wednesday September 4 they will take another break. Thursday September 5 ‘The Suit’ will reenter the water at Kokomo and swim towards Karakter at Rif St Marie. The day after, the snorkel trip follows the reef with destination Sta Martha and from there the voyage continues to Lagun. The final part of the trip, from Lagun to the westernmost point, which is also the northernmost point of Curaçao, will take place on Sunday September 8. On their way from east to west ‘The Suit’ will receive special guests at certain moments. Bob the flamingo, together with his caretaker, veterinarian Odette Doest, will keep ‘The Suit’ company for a bit along the way. ‘The Suit’ is provided with a tracking system so they can be followed along all of the route. In addition, ‘The Suit’ carries bodycams as well as a handheld camera that aim to provide stunning vertical images of our underwater kunuku. Moreover, a camera team will swim along to collect the horizontal images for the documentary along the drop off and the blue edge as well as recording the progress of The Suit. A unique Curaçao Snorkeling Adventure Begins The Suit Curacao - Day 1 - Curacao Vlog: * https://www.thesuitcuracao.com/post/the-suit-curacao-day-one Prior to the departure on Friday August 31, 2019 - each and every SUIT had the honor to interact with The Prime Minister of Curaçao, Mr. Eugene Rhuggenaath and The Minister of Economic Development for Curaçao, Mrs. Giselle Mc William as they officially visited The Suit Curaçao at the Pelican Express. An honor to all of The SUITS! We had great conversations and good laughs. After departing the Curaçao Sea Aquarium Park and on the way to Eastpoint (Oostpunt), we had friends of "Bob The Flamingo" - Odette Doest - following us and giving us great photo & video (see below) opportunities from the Pelican Express (Captain Jean Robert van Hutten) and the Curacao Galaxy from Ocean Encounters (Captain Jeremiah Peek)! At approximately 9:30am, The Suit Curaçao entered the relatively rough seas of Eastpoint, where they encountered very strong currents, not only at surface level but deeper as well that kept carrying us to any and all directions except for the heading we wanted. Because these conditions, this resulted in delay from the start due to very little progress over time, covering very little distance. BUT.... as we turned Eastpoint to slowly head West, The Suit Curaçao was able to catch up, making better time and distance. Day 1 Impressions: 💙 “The coral reefs at Oostpunt represent a window into the past when Caribbean reefs were healthy and vibrant everywhere." What was down there to see was magnificent and will be brought to screens for others to enjoy as well. BUT.... as we turned Eastpoint to slowly head West, The Suit Curaçao was able to catch up, making better time and distance. Visit https://www.thesuitcuracao.com to learn more! A Unique Curaçao Snorkeling Adventure | Day 2 | The Suit Curacao

The Suit Curacao - Follow Along for an Exciting Day 2 Schedule! The Suit Curaçao will continue this unique Curaçao adventure swimming from east of Fuikbaai with the goal of reaching Marichi. But, who The Suit will meet along the way is by far the most motivating and exciting factors that will drive the momentum from the 8:15am start time!! * https://www.thesuitcuracao.com/post/the-suit-curacao-day-2-schedule The Suit Curaçao - Day 2 Summary - Have you ever experienced the joy and excitement of the underwater world that lies just meters from the Curaçao coastline? The world that lies just below the waterline here on Curaçao is a 360 degree kaleidoscope of colors and abundant life that keeps coming back once you immerse yourself.... where the ocean meets land. There is without a doubt; so much to see, so much to enjoy, so much to protect... and still so much to learn. * https://www.thesuitcuracao.com/post/the-suit-curacao-day-2-summary Highlights of today's swim included; Caracasbaai - The Suit Curaçao will be passing Director's Bay, an historic Curaçao landmark dating back to the early 1900's. The fact is that starting in the early 1900's until departing in 1985, the Directors of the Royal Dutch Shell Group and the Dutch Royal family used this bay exclusively and it was considered private. Now, the beach and surrounding area are open for public use. Today, Director's Bay is one of the most perfect examples of sustainable tourism since largely due to regularly monthly underwater cleaning events conducted by the Curacao Hospitality and Tourism Association's (CHATA) Dive Task Force and because it is also a Coral Restoration Foundation Curaçao (CRFC) outplanting site. After passing Director's Bay, The Suit Curaçao will pass the famous Tugboat wreck located at the bottom of the infamous "Quarantine House"then complete the crossing of Caracasbaai heading toward the next destination - The Curaçao Sea Aquarium Park - passing Jan Thiel Beach along the way. Curacao Sea Aquarium Park - The Suit Curaçao will be met and greeted by Dolphin friends from Dolphin Academy not to mention the iconic Curasub from Substation Curaçao! If you are not in the water swimming along with The Suit Curacao, then check out the newly launched Ocean Lens Curaçao where you have a perfect dry view of the incredible underwater world plus a newly installed coral nursery from the Coral Restoration Foundation Curaçao!! A unique Curaçao Snorkeling Adventure | Day 4 | The Suit Curacao Vlog

The Suit Curacao - Follow Along for Day 3 - this unigue Curacao adventure starts from the Curaçao Sea Aquarium Park. The Suit Curaçao will continue this afternoon swimming from east with the goal of reaching the CARMABI Research Station located at the headquarters of the CARMABI Foundation in Piscaderabaai. ** https://www.thesuitcuracao.com/post/the-suit-curacao-follow-along-for-day-3 The Suit Curaçao - Day 3 Wrap Up and Now Swimming on Day 4! * https://www.thesuitcuracao.com/post/the-suit-curacao-day-3-wrap-up The SUIT Curacao - Here’s a short Wrap Up of Day 4 * https://www.thesuitcuracao.com/post/the-suit-curacao-day-4 We started where we stopped the day before, at the CARMABI Foundation in Piscadera. The Suit was welcomed by the scientists, students, crews, and even a local school group on a tour of Carmabi Education. Also present was Dr. Fleur van Duyl, an internationally renowed expert and researcher in marine life. After completing extensive research, she authored the Atlas of the Living Reefs of Curaçao and Bonaire. The Suit considers it a great honor to have met Dr. Fleur van Duyl. After some early morning hot beverages under the trees seaside, The Suit loaded up and headed West. Upon arrival in the Blue Bay Curaçao, The Suit got great company by staff and students from Blue Bay Dive & Watersports who kept following The Suit both swimming as well as by boat. That was kind’a cool! While underway, The Suit had an unplanned rendezvous with an iguana. The SUIT immediately saw that the waves and the current was too strong for the iguana to swim back safely to shore and that drowning was about to follow. So "The Suit" decided immediately to rescue the distressed iguana. After some moments of ‘you’re going to be ok’, the iguana was safely brought to the shore where it managed to crawl and climb back up, free to continue on its day. And then, the Wederfoort Family at Boca St. Michiel joined us with with a multitude of family and friends from the neighbourhood. They welcomed The Suit cheering on everyone involved. Dive legend, Eric Wederfoort and his wife Yolanda really surpised us! As The Suit was diving and swimming along the coastline, neighbors were waving, whistling, cheering and even a loud ‘vuvuzela’ sound was in the game! Dr. Alex Roose pumped a lot of air from his lungs through the vuvuzela. The Suit Divers, The Suit Swimmers, The Suit Operations & surveillance vessels and kayaks and paddle board all enjoyed this special act! And the specials guests: "Bob The Flamingo" and his caretaker, Veterinarian Dr. Odette Doest. The story of Bob is incredibly beautiful and the tears roll off when seeing and hearing the story that can make sea-levels rise. The interaction between Dr. Doest and Bob The Flamingo is priceless. Dr. Doest rescued "Bob" because it cannot be returned back to nature as he will simply not survive. THE SUIT got company from Bob The Flamingo & Dr. Doest swimming a few hundred meters. What an honor that was! "Bob" is now involved in serious educational programs where Dr. Doest connects Bob to kids in schools through her awareness programs. Her foundation ‘Fundashon Dier en Onderwijs Caribbean’ fully depends on and welcomes donations to be able to fuel the foundations awareness programs. As The Suit was approached Vaersenbaai, a.k.a. Kokomo Beach, underwater painting artist, Sinuhe Oomen was getting ready to swim out, dive down and paint under water. Mr. Oomen kept all SUITS holding their breath as they were watching how a new painting was about to emerge! Sinuhe Oomen, an experienced diver and artist, finally surfaced with a brand new fresh art piece reflecting what he saw below the surface - creating a vision that cameras cannot replicate. Thank you Mr. Oomen for producing this UNIQUE vision of Curaçao and for joining The Suit! Back on land, a good power meal was served by the staff of Kokomo Beach Curaçao to rapidly replenish and prepare for recovery after .. another beautiful day! Special thanks to Turtle and Ray Productions HD for producing this beautiful video recap of Day. Additionally THE SUIT thanks all involved and will continue the journey towards the West.
