Today, Thursday September 5, 2019; will hopefully mark the official half-way point for The Suit Curaçao in this unique adventure as they cross Bullenbaai with a swim ending at Oasis Coral Estate Beach, Dive and Wellness Resort. This will be a challenging day ahead for The Suit, but at the same time it will be incredibly beautiful.
Challenging because the of twisting currents and prevailing winds, largely due to the geographic position of Bullenbaai. But this fact alone is why the north-west coastline of Bullenbaai is called "Seldom Reef", a spectacular reef... but seldom visited!
Highlights of today's swim will include;
Departing Kokomo Beach by 8:00am on Wednesday September 4th, 2019 to continue the swim west into the heart of Bullenbaai.
By 9:00am, The Suit Curaçao should reach way-point 1 which is an infamous Curaçao location called "Lover's Beach". From there, the next stretch will include passing the main gates of the Bullenbaai Oil Terminal, then passing 7 jetty's, which total approximately 5km before clearing the Terminal heading west toward way-point number 5 which marks the entrance into the Sint Maria Salina's, located in the area of Sint Willibrodus.
From the entrance of the Salina's, The Suit will have an challenging 3.5km stretch ahead crossing some of the most incredible fringing reef structures on Curaçao, known as "Seldom Reef"and then followed by the one and only, "Rif Sint Marie".
Seldom Reef is spectacular and seldom dived (therefore the name). It is very deep, with a sheer 90 foot wall. It should only be considered for intermediate and advanced divers - not snorkerlers - craving sites offering more than the average wall dive. This site in Bullenbaai is considered a "boat dive only" and truly one of the better sites on Curacao for a true deep dive, but please always consider your safety limits.
Rounding the corner at way-point 6 will mark a direction change to the northwest with a heading towards Rif Sint Marie, the house reef of Coral Divers and of Oasis Coral Estate Beach, Dive and Wellness Resort, and the home to Karakter Curaçao. Arrival should occur at approximately 1:30pm.
